I have always been inclined to question the norms we inherit and the ones we try to fit ourselves into. I grew up in a family that appeared conventional from the outside, while quietly subverting many of the expectations we were trying to meet. I am also the product of generations shaped by a prescriptive religious community. I continue to examine what that inheritance has meant in my own life, including the ways patriarchy, internalized misogyny, and perfectionism can become woven into our sense of who we are and how we believe we should be.
This ongoing inquiry informs my work as a therapist. I’m interested in how personal histories, relationships, bodies, ancestry, and larger social systems shape our inner lives. The boundaries between the personal and the political, the individual and the collective, are rarely as clear as we might imagine. What we experience as a personal failing, a source of shame, or a conflict within ourselves may also carry the imprint of the families, cultures, and systems in which we have learned to belong.
I’m particularly drawn to the places where identity, intimacy, shame, and belonging intersect. This might mean exploring how you understand yourself in relation to others, navigating the tension between your own desires and others’ expectations, or finding more freedom in how you inhabit your body and relationships. I don’t believe that personal inquiry and change require us to reject the ways that we’ve learned to survive. Instead, we can begin to understand those ways of being, appreciate what they have made possible, and explore whether they fit the life you want to live. My intention is to support a process of becoming more fully acquainted with your own authenticity and agency.
